Politics: Segregation 2; Integration 2

Ivan Allen, another integration-minded mayor of Atlanta, has died. As the New York Times reports, Allen was a huge factor in initially protecting Atlanta from some of the insanity when integrating schools and workplaces. From the obit:
Allen, who served from 1962 to 1970, desegregated city government the day he took office. The ``colored'' and ``white'' signs were taken down and he hired blacks for many city jobs, including police officer and firefighter.

Allen joins Maynard Jackson as integrationists who've departed in the last two weeks. Earlier, segregationists Lester Maddox and Strom Thurmond uttered their final indignities and left this mortal coil.
