Politics: Amazing

The stunning thing about this AP item is the tone. This entire piece is written as if its subject, Aafia Saddiqui, was guilty of a crime. (None has been alleged.) Think about it. It's the serial killer story ("he was always a quiet guy, kind of a loner...") updated for the terrorist era. The only thing missing is any actual wrongdoing.

Instead, if viewed through the right lens, the item demonstrates a staggering bias, both on the part of the media and the law enforcement officials looking for Saddiqui: If a Christian was zealous about her faith in America, and wanted to spread the word to disadantaged people and others as far and wise as possible, she certainly wouldn't be tracked by FBI agents and written up in the newspaper as a criminal. But if a Muslim is as zealous about her faith, and speads the word in prisons and among young people, and speaks glowingly of the power of her god, she is immediately suspected of terrorist activity, profiled like a psycho in the press and hunted and hounded until she flees the country she has lived in for years.
