Politics: Hackers and Politics

Pro-U.S. hackers were apparently responsible for the redirect of visitors to Arabic news channel al-Jazeera's English website. The visitors were sent to a page with a waving U.S. flag and "let freedom ring," whatever the hell that means. Now hackers have attacked the email system of Florida Republican Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite. Brown-Waite, you may recall, introduced some mind-numbingly stupid legislation to dig up the dead U.S. soldiers buried in France and bring them home to "patriotic soil." She has a long legislative future with the G.O.P, I can guarantee it. Anyhow, hackers got into Brown-Waite's email account, and sent messages to everyone in her personal address book calling President Bush a terrorist and saying that he, Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld deserved the death penalty.

The best thing about this story is that a German magazine encouraged readers to send bones to Brown-Waite, and her spokesperson confirms delivery of at least one package of rotting chicken bones from Deutschland. Nice work!
